Spring 2017 – Stick Handling DEVELOPMENT

OBJECTIVE: Our Stick handling Program will provide players with the necessary skills needed to become more efficient at puck skills. This program will take a focused approach on improving players’ fakes, dekes and overall technique of how and when to use different types of puck skills.

Our programs take on a focused approached for skill acquisition, covering the 3 keys in the learning process:

  1.  Cognitive – Learn the facts
  2.  Associative – Practicing
  3.  Automatic Response – Second Nature

DAILY STRUCTURE:

1 x 20 Minute Interactive Boardroom session (Cognitive) These sessions will take place in our on-site boardroom. Session Includes: 10 minute interactive discussion using video to enhance retention of skills 10 minute for Journal development, focusing on key topics from the session.

Players will be responsible to have their journals with them each week for this portion of our program.

These sessions will focus on the keys to enhancing learning and skill acquisition:

  • a) Lecture
  • b) Reading
  • c) Audio/Visual
  • d) Demonstration
  • e) Discussion 1 x 50 Minute On Ice Sessions (Associative/Automatic Response)

COACH/ATHLETE RATIO: 1:6

THIS SPRING, THE RINK WILL BE OFFERING 13 WEEK PROGRAMS THAT WILL FOLLOW A COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM.

The off-season is a time for skill development.  After a long winter season, take the time to improve the individual aspects of your game in order to prepare for next season.
